The Adventure Begins

Jay: Dear...Dear...
Mary: Wha...what?
Jay: Are you awake?
Mary: I am now. What time is it?
Jay: 2:30. I can't sleep. Should we just get up now and leave early?
Mary: ugh!!
And so our adventure begins...

Devil's Gate

Martin's Cove Visitor's Center

Independence Rock
By 4:00 we were in Wyoming. We were both pretty excited to turn north when we got to Rawlins. We had never driven that direction before and it made us feel like we were on a real adventure at last. We were pleased with the change in scerery which was quite a bit prettier the further north we went. By 10:00 we were in Martin's Cove taking a tour.
We learned a lot about how the church acquired the property. This was a story I had never heard before and it was one that strengthened our testimonies. It was cold and windy during that portion of our trip and we were pretty miserable since we were dressed for the summer. We both gained a better appreciation for what the poor pioneers went through. We were happy to get back in the warm car and head to beautiful South Dakota.

Crazy Horse
Our first stop was Crazy Horse. It was still crazy windy so we just went in the museum and passed on the bus ride up to the monument. The monument hasn't been completed yet and it was cool to see a work in progress.

Next, we stopped at Mount Rushmore. BEAUTIFUL!!! I could never get tired of looking at the presidents. Jay told some kid that there was a show where they made the presidents talk, like the statues in the Haunted house at Disneyland. The kid's parents were not amused when he told his parents he wanted to see the show.
Jay was finally able to tear me away from Mount Rushmore and we headed to a Fairfield Inn in Rapid City. And so ends the first day of our great adventure. I will get some pictures added a little later.
