We were heading to Pittsburgh to attend a Pirates' game. This would be our 5th stop on our baseball stadium tour. We had heard that PNC Park was the most beautiful ballpark in the country to see a game. Many of the roads were under construction so we decided to walk over to the stadium. They close the bridge down to traffic on game days so pedestrians can safely cross over the river. The Pirates have been a losing team for 20 years. So, in an effort to draw more fans, they have come up with some fun promotions. Last night, in addition to the game they also offered a fireworks show and a free concert by Train!
Wow! Beautiful city, beautiful ballpark, the very best of fireworks, and a most excellent concert! We had a fantastic stay here and we will definitely return next year for baseball and hopefully sooner for some football.
This is the bridge they close to traffic. |
If you promise not to drink at the game they will give you a free soft drink. This is Jay's designated driver wristband :) |

They sell raffle tickets for charity and the winners get to take the jerseys right off the players backs after the game. |

After staying out past midnight the night before we decided to take the scenic way home on the old Lincoln Highway. Here are a few of the quirky things we saw along the way.
A look at the new memorial for the heroes of Flight 93 |
Once an ordinary field. The plane crashed just beyond and to the right of the white wall. What a sobering sight |
About 1,500 people visit the temporary memorial each day. Next month they are expecting much larger crowds for the anniversary of September 11 |
